Nurse of Year

AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Education and the Maine Association of School Nurses will celebrate the Maine School Nurse of the Year at the Blaine House Tea from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 5.

RSVP Nancy Dube at nancy.dube@maine.gov to attend as the Blaine House requires an attendance list for entry.

Bridge results

OXFORD — Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met April 29. A five table Howell movement was enjoyed.

Finishing first in flight A were Dick Allen (New Gloucester) and Pete Cummings (South Paris) with a whopping 73% game, second were Rosemarie Goodwin (Lewiston) and Luke Merry (New Gloucester). Third were Pat and Mike Quinn (Otisfield).

Finishing first in flight B were Jim Krainin (Windham) and Milt McKeen (Bridgton), second were Hank Sakrison (Poland) and Denny Raymond (Waterford), third were Diana and Jim Fallon (Bridgton).

Cinco de Mayo

NORWAY — The public is invited to a Cinco de Mayo celebration, a First Friday Feast, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 6, at the Second Congregational Church, UCC, 205 Main St.

The fifth in our First Friday dinner series will be a Mexican dinner featuring hard and soft tacos, Cait Luff’s famous enchiladas, chips and salsa, dessert, coffee and tea. A nonalcoholic margarita will also be included. The cost of the supper will be $8. There will discounts for children under 12 years old. Take out is available.

The Second Congregational Church, UCC is an open and affirming congregation. Worship and church school is every Sunday at 10 a.m. For more information, call the church office at 743-2290.

Clothing Center

HARTFORD — The Hartford Community Church Clothing Center will be open from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, and Saturday, May 21. The Clothing Center is located on Church Street, directly opposite the Hartford Community Church.

Community clean-up

NORWAY — The Norway Parks & Recreation Department will hold the annual Community Spring Clean Up at Lake Pennesseewassee Park from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 7.

From 8 to 11 a.m. work will consist of picking up branches and raking the public boat landing area, trails and beaches. From 11 a.m. to noon, there will be fun family activities such as beach ball volleyball coordinated by the Daisy Girl Scout Troop, a basketball clinic coordinated by OHCHS seniors, nature hike scavenger hunt and knot tying coordinated by Norway Paris Cub Scout Troop Pack 130 and more.

Lake Pennesseewassee Park is open to the public regardless of their residence. Please bring your own gloves and rakes.

Perennial sale

OXFORD — His Place Teen Center will hold a Mothers Day plant and perrenial sale from 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, at Terre Porter’s parking lot, at the light, next to Rite Aid. All proceeds go to support His Place Teen Center.

Those with plants and perrenials to donate to the sale, vases or garden-related items, contact Howie Munday at 539-2372 or Marion Chase at 583-2534.

Donations are also being accepted for the next big yard sale on Route 26, next to the fish market on Memorial Day weekend, May 25-June 1, and other future yard sales as well as for the Alpha & Omega Thrift Shop.

Youths ages 11-18 are invited to come to His Place on Friday nights from 6-9 p.m. His Place Teen Center will celebrate 19 years this August.

1st Saturday

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will have its monthly 1st Saturday Supper at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7. The meal will be a chicken pie dinner with gravy and potatoes, stuffing, rolls, salad, cooked veggies. The meal is in honor of the women in our lives; men will provide desserts. There will also be raffle items. Donations will benefit the work of the Church.

Plant, yard sale

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will hold the 2nd annual plant, bake and yard sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 14, in the church yard. At 6:30 that evening, there will be a free community movie. Refreshments will be sold.
