RUMFORD — Elizabeth B. Chase, 87, died Saturday, April 30, at her residence on Swain Road, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on June 5, 1923, in Steinklingen, Germany, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara Schmitt Stadler and had attended schools in Steinklingen, Germany. Elizabeth worked at Diamond National Corp. in West Peru for over 23 years, until retirement in 1985 from the swab department.

She was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius – St. John Church and a member of the Foreign Born Ladies Club. She loved spending time with her family and working in her garden. She was married in Weinheim, Germany, on April 10, 1948, to Donald E. Chase Jr., who died in Rumford on March 7, 2004.

Survivors include sons, Horst Schmitt and wife, Inga, of Vancouver, Wash., Edwin Chase and wife, Joanne, of Jessup, Ga., Peter Chase and wife, Rhonda, of Rumford, Larry Chase and wife, Kim, of Lisbon Falls, Paul Chase and wife, Darlene, of Monmouth and David Chase and wife, Brenda, of Monmouth; brother, Joseph Stadler, of Germany; 16 grandchildren; 15 and a half great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband; sons, Klaus and Gary; and sisters, Anel and Betty.
