TOGUS — Theodore A. “Teddy” Leighton, 62, of Cumberland Street, Rumford, died Monday, May 2, at the Veterans Hospital.

He was born in Rumford, Aug. 18, 1948, a son of Harold and Melba (Philbrick) Leighton. He had attended Mexico schools and received his GED. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Teddy was well-known as a carpet layer and had worked for James Cantello and Rodney Canwell for many years.

He was a life member of Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW, member of the Rumford Falls Aerie 1248, FOE, member of Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion, and he enjoyed fishing, music and was an avid fan of all of John Wayne’s movies. He also enjoyed spending time with his great-nieces, Sierra and Maranda.

Survivors include sisters, Victoria Borja of Interlauchen, Fla., Virginia Grant and husband, Howard, of St. Augustine, Fla., Sherry Posner and husband, Stratton, of St. Augustine, Fla., and Kerry Leighton and companion, Mike Thomas, of Roxbury; brothers, Lawrence Philbrick and Timothy Leighton, of Rumford; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Thomas Leighton.
