AARP meeting

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter of AARP will meet on Monday, May 9, at the First Congregational Church on East Main Street, South Paris. A chicken dinner will be served at noon. The cost is $6.50 and reservations are required by calling Ruth at 744-9069 by noon on Friday, May 6.

The meeting will begin at 1, followed by entertainment by clown Rick Adams.

Bethel seniors

WOODSTOCK — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, at the Cross Stone Restaurant located next to the Mollyockett Motel, Route 26. The Yankee pot roast meal will cost $10. Reservations must be made before 10 a.m. on May 6 by calling Caroline Gould at 824-3226 or Arlene Lowell at 824-2877.

Nancy Willard will lead members in stretching exercises at 10:30 a.m. for those interested. Gerry Shimamura will speak about hospice care.

Percy Jackson

NORWAY — Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be coming to the Norway Memorial Library at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 10. The children’s room will be transformed into Camp Half-blood for the afternoon. Children and Percy Jackson lovers of all ages are invited to attend the festivities. Please register at the library by May 7 in order to reserve a spot at the program.

Camp Half-blood will feature Medusa Freeze Tag, Ambrosia of the Gods, Name that God and Custom Shield Making. Activities are designed to test the campers strength, agility and dexterity in order to decide which Greek God they are descended from.

All participants are encouraged to come dressed as a favorite god, demigod or monster. Traditional togas are always considered fashionable at Camp Half-blood.

Food Not Fines

DIXFIELD — During the week of May 9-14, Ludden Memorial Library will take part in the Maine State Library’s statewide Food Not Fines program. The library will accept nonperishable food items in lieu of fines for any overdue library items that are returned during that week.

Paris library

PARIS — The Paris Public Library is participating in the Food Not Fines week, running from May 9-14. Coordinated by the Maine State Library, more than 70 public libraries in the state are involved in this drive to collect items for local food pantries.

Any nonperishable food items, such as canned or boxed products, may be dropped off at the library when it is open. The Paris Public Library’s hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Supper dance

LOCKE MILLS — A supper dance will take place from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the American Legion Hall.

Menu includes meatloaf, gravy, mashed potatoes, veggies and pies. Music by the Jones Band. Doors open at 4. Adults $10, child $3.

Drama Club

PARIS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Drama Club will hold a Night of Theatre Wednesday, May 11, in the high school auditorium. Doors open at 6:15 p.m., showtime is 6:30. Donations collected at the door are for future drama club performances.

Salway at library

BRYANT POND — Norma Salway of Bethel will be the presenter at the Whitman Memorial Library at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12. Salway is a retired teacher of SAD 44 and will be sharing her book, “The Spirit of Songo.” This is a collection of poems and vintage photos celebrating the life of Songo Pond. The program is open to the public at no charge and light refreshments will be served.
