DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Police Department responded to 20 calls since April 27. Among them were:

Arrest

* Diane Stanley, 67, of Mexico, on a charge of domestic assault, at 10:55 a.m. May 1 on Weld Street. She was released from the Dixfield Police Department on $1,000 unsecured bail. She is scheduled to appear in Rumford District Court on July 5.

Burglary/vandalism

* The door to the Chow Snack Shack on Harlow Field was kicked in the night before the incident was reported at 7:30 a.m. April 30. Candy and soda were taken. Damage to the door was estimated at $100.

* Residents are asked to be on the lookout for an apparent new scam. Sgt. Jeff Howe said unknown people from Ohio and North Carolina sent a Coburn Avenue resident fraudulent travelers’ checks and a fraudulent U.S. Postal Service money order. One of the checks, for $500, was cashed before the bank discovered that it was counterfeit.

So far, Howe said the recipient has not been asked to send money. The local resident continues to receive emails. Howe believes scammers may be trying to learn whether cashing such checks might be easy in the area. Howe said he plans to contact the Federal Trade Commission as part of the investigation.

* In another matter, Howe said the Dixfield Police Department received a safety belt grant for $1,940 from the Bureau of Highway Safety. The extra funds will be used to operate additional patrol details to check for non-use of seat belts. The additional details begin May 23 and run through June 5.
