LEWISTON – Plans have been taking shape throughout the winter for Museum L-A’s 2nd annual L-A DU – A Duathlon of Historic Proportion set for Sunday, June 26 at Simard-Payne Police Memorial Park. The duathlon will raise funds to move into the next phase of development of the Camden Yarns property for the new Museum L-A. The “DU” is comprised of a 2.6-mile run followed by a 14-mile bike course ending with a 3-mile run.

“We are having a day that continues to appeal to the serious athlete, but it will also be more community and family-focused this year,” notes Museum L-A Executive Director Rachel Desgrosseilliers. “The new events are in response to what we heard from last year’s L-A DU. Grandparents wanted us to have something they could do and we noticed that children needed something to do while parents are racing. We also heard from people who wanted to run, but didn’t bike.” Therefore, new events include the New Balance 5K run, Community Walk and a Free Kids’ Obstacle Course as well as a corporate team challenge for the Duathlon.

Mike Lecompte of Lewiston is serving as this year’s race director with Tri-Maine returning to coordinate race logistics. “We are capping the L-A DU at 500 people and our goal is to sell out,” Lecompte said.

The planning team also includes bike course coordinator John Grenier, run course coordinator and 5K director Scott Brown, Eric Cobb and Chip Timing.

Volunteers are needed to help out at all of the events on race day and for activities happening the day before the race.
