MADISON — The Madison Bulldogs dug up nine runs in the first inning, but Dirigo battled back for an 11-10 extra-inning victory in MVC softball action Saturday afternoon.

The Cougars (3-3) tightened up the defense after the first inning, preventing several potential runs on caught-stealing plays.

Sophomore catcher Tasha DeRoche was a workhorse at the plate, compiling four hits, including a home run. DeRoche plated three runs along the way.

Second baseman Sierra LeBlanc led the Bulldogs (4-2) with three hits in the losing effort.

Girls’ lacrosse

Hebron 16, Gould 9

HEBRON — Talya Bent recorded five goals to lead Hebron to a 16-9 triumph over Gould in girls’ lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

The Lumberjacks (6-2) jumped out to an 8-4 halftime lead. Gina Conroy contributed four goals, while Sarah Markey pitched in with three tallies.

The Huskies lagged behind by about the same margin in each half, outpaced by Hebron roughly two to one. Ella Dorval-Hall scored a pair of goals for Gould in the losing effort.

Baseball

Dirigo 11, Madison 3

MADISON — Senior designated hitter Spencer Ross was perfect at the plate with five hits as Dirigo cruised to an 11-3 victory over Madison in MVC baseball action Saturday.

The Cougars (6-0) put up seven runs over the course of the first three innings before the Bulldogs (2-4) countered with a run. Spencer had a pair of triples in his run up of five hits.

Junior pitcher Cody St. Germain fanned six batters, gave up just four hits and allowed no earned runs as Dirigo remains undefeated.

Junior catcher Justin Emery had one of Madison’s four hits with a single in the losing effort.
