WINTHROP — The Pittsfield Pirates overcame a 4-1 deficit by scoring five runs in the seventh inning and seven in the eighth en route to a 13-5 win over Winthrop in a Pine Tree League senior baseball season opener.
The Pirates’ Scott Sibley hurled six innings to pick up the win before giving way to Gary Morin for the final threee frames. Nate Stubbert suffered the loss for Winthrop but contributed three hits.
Sam Shain tripled and singled as he and Stubbert accounted for all of Winthrop’s runs. Sibley and Mark Bennett each had a pair of hits for the Pirates.
The teams face off again May 15 at Dexter High School.
