DEAR SUN SPOTS: Our shop is getting ready to hold its first Piecing for Pets event. We are asking for assistance from local quilters who would be interested in making pet beds to donate to the Humane Society. Beds should roughly measure 12 by 16 inches. Pet beds can also be knitted or crocheted.

These are one of many items we are hoping to collect for this event. Donations of pet food, litter, toys and shavings are also welcomed. All goods can be dropped off at our shop by May 31. We can also arrange a pickup date for those who do not drive.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I read your response to the March 14 question about Canadian pharmacies and would like to add my experience.

A therapist at Mercy Hospital suggested going through one of them. I chose another, canadianpharmacymeds.com and have had a wonderful experience with them.

I started last fall buying two expensive prescriptions, which would cost me $500 a month here but by buying generic brands from India, I save 80 percent.

My wife met a woman who works for a large pharmaceutical company as a tester. When my wife asked her about Canadian meds she said Canada has very high standards and that the Indian producers have the highest quality around. So I guess if you stay away from the counterfeit producers, you are much ahead. — Ken, New Gloucester, Cgeneral@maine.rr.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots is glad you’re pleased with their service, but she still thinks these pharmacies should be more upfront about the fact they are selling drugs manufactured in India. She also thinks U.S. pharmaceutical companies who have overseas manufacturing facilities should be required to disclose/advertise that fact. Readers might be interested in a recent story about the dangers of contamination from overseas manufacturing of drugs (including over the counter) and food. DEAR SUN SPOTS: A few years ago there was an article in the paper indicating the cost for each bill that is introduced by legislators. I tried to find it by going online to the Sun Journal, but had no luck. Could you possibly track down the information? Thank you. — Stan, Poland, sctet@roadtel.com

ANSWER: Sun Spots was not able to find it either. It’s very difficult to search for something without more specific terms, such as a specific LD number.

Estimating the cost of legislation is costly in itself, so it would be unlikely that the state would undertake that process for the hundreds of bills proposed in a session. Cost estimates tend to be done by advocacy groups, such as Common Cause, or those for a specific industry opposing legislation that would hurt their business.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Knights of Columbus, 148 Main Street, Jay, will have its next public supper on Saturday, May 13. The doors open at noon to help people stay warm and socialize, with the meal served from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
