FARMINGTON — A Maine sheriff has been recognized by the Quebec Provincial Police for his efforts in covering the area around the U.S.-Canadian border.
Franklin County Sheriff Dennis Pike received the honor recently at a ceremony in Montreal.
The Sun Journal of Lewiston says Pike was nominated for the oak leaf bronze medal for working with the Quebec Provincial Police in covering the border crossing and overseeing operations in the area.
The Canadian police recognized Pike for his nearly 50 years of service to the community, his work as sheriff of Franklin County and for being an important member of a border police community.
While in Montreal, the Quebec police and Maine department signed an agreement for an 18-month pilot project that will include an officer exchange.
