RUMFORD — A man and a woman from Portland were arrested early Saturday on charges of trafficking cocaine.

Michael O. Okot, 25, and Reaksmey C. Tang, 18, both of 155 Anderson St. in Portland, were charged with trafficking in schedule W drugs.

According to an arrest affidavit by Rumford police Cpl. Lawrence T. Winson, the two were arrested during a traffic stop Saturday just after midnight and found to have marijuana, crack cocaine and a digital scale.

Winson wrote that while driving on Route 2, he saw a car swerve several times and pulled it over. Okot said he was looking for a hotel and was holding a cellphone. Officer Joseph Sage arrived to assist in the traffic stop, and according to the affidavit, Winson called Cpt. Daniel Garbarini and Sgt. James Bernard for assistance.

Tang was acting nervous, Winson wrote, and would look at Okot before speaking to her. Bernard asked Tang to step out of the car to speak with her. Outside of the car, Tang admitted she had marijuana in the car, according to the document.

The officers found the marijuana and conducted a search of the car, according to the affidavit. In the trunk, Winson wrote that he found several baggies of what later tested positive for crack cocaine. He wrote that there were also several baggies and a scale.

Okot and Tang were transported to the Rumford Police Department without incident and then to the Oxford County jail. Okot’s bail was set at $30,000 cash, while Tang’s was set at $25,000.

Both are set to appear in Oxford County Superior Court on July 5.
