LEWISTON/RUMFORD — The Civil Air Patrol is again joining with the Wreaths Across America in celebrating National Military and Veterans Appreciation Month in May by giving thank-you cards to all who have served in our armed forces. Members of CAP in the Maine Wing will locally be meeting and greeting veterans in cities and towns, within the state and nationally.

Senior members and cadets in squadrons in Portland, Auburn/Lewiston, Augusta, Waterville, Bar Harbor, Bangor, Caribou, Rumford and Machias will distribute these card of thanks.

This is a fundraiser as well to support CAP and WAA’s 2011 goal of placing a wreath on every grave at Arlington National Cemetery this year.

CAP and WAA have now teamed with the Walmart Corporation for this event. During the month, many CAP members will be located in front of the local Walmart stores.

Donors can purchase a $15 wreath with a sponsorship form, and the wreath can be shipped to Arlington, or a local site that you are supporting such as Togus or other veterans cemetery.

For more information about the WAA fundraising, contact the Maine Wing Commander at dleclair@mewg.cap.gov or visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org. Look for Civil Air Patrol members during the Armed Forces weekend May 21, and Memorial Day weekend, May 28-30. The Civil Air Patrol is a volunteer civilian auxiliary of the Air Force.
