AUBURN — Thomas W. Janas, 73, of Lewiston, passed peacefully away on May 22, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

The son of Walter and Irene (Hamel) Janas, he was born in Lewiston on Jan. 23, 1938.

He attended Lewiston schools and entered the Navy, where he served on the USS Hornet, based out of San Diego, Calif. Upon returning to Maine, he began employment with Hall & Knight Hardware Co. and worked with them for over 40 years, retiring in 1999.

He married Lorraine LeBlanc on May 30, 1959, and enjoyed a loving marriage for 38 years, with Lorraine passing in 1997. During his lifetime, he enjoyed spending time with his children, Susan and Nancy, and grandchildren, and attended their various sports activities as often as he could. He was a very proud father and pepere. Being an avid sports enthusiast his entire life, he followed the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Bruins and many collegiate teams.

In 2000, Tom met the second love of his life, Lorraine Bisson. They soon after married, on Feb. 1, 2003, and spent eight wonderful years together that included traveling and family get-togethers at Tacoma Lakes.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; sister, Gloria Rousseau and husband, Julian (Tee); brother, Stanley Janas and wife, Diane; daughter, Susan Berube and husband, Ron, daughter, Nancy Roy and husband, Peter; stepdaughter, Linda Lebrun and husband, Jim, stepdaughter, Brenda Landry and husband, Paul, stepson, Michael Bisson and wife, Lisa; five grandchildren, Kristen, Mitchell, Austin, Alex and Emma; eight step-grandchildren, Ryan, Travis, Danielle, Brianne, Jake, Haley, Joseph and Nicholas; and nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine; his parents, Walter and Irene Janas; and stepson, Marcel Bisson.
