RANGELEY — Voters in Regional School Unit 78 approved a budget of $3.37 million for 2011-12 on Tuesday during a districtwide budget meeting, Superintendent Brian Foster said Wednesday.
That amount will now go to referendum on Tuesday, June 7, for a yes or no validation vote in the five towns the district serves. Polls will be open on June 7, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Dallas Plantation Town Office; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Magalloway Town Office; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Rangeley Town Office; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Rangeley Plantation Town Office; and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Sandy River Plantation Town Office.
Voters opted to increase the school board’s recommended $3.35 million by $25,000, Foster said.
About 65 to 75 people turned out for the vote at the Rangeley Lakes Regional School, he said.
Voters in a 34-18 vote increased the special education budget by $25,000, Foster said. It brought the article up to $410,710.24, according to budget information.
An attempt to lower the transportation article by $8,000 failed in a 21-24 vote, he said. The initial recommendation of $242,881.50 passed in a 38-8 vote, he said.
