NORWAY — On Thursday, May 26, Norway Farmers’ Market vendors will gather in the Town Parking Lot off Main and Whitman streets (behind the Fare Share Market) to begin the 2011 market season. An opening day festival will be held throughout the market day.

The Kidds Hillbilly Farm and A Wrinkle In Thyme Farm, both of Sumner, will entertain and delight the children with young goats and lambs born at their farms this spring.

Many vendors will donate products for raffles to be drawn throughout the day. Deedee Estes, event coordinator, will pass out raffle tickets to the customers upon arrival and will pull a winning ticket every 15 minutes. The lucky winner, who must be present to win, will select the product of their choice.

All of the “losing” tickets will go into a grand prize drawing at the close of the market day for the remainder of the donated products and a wonderful seafood gift donated by Cantrell’s Seafood. Customers do not need to be present to win the grand prize drawing.

The Norway Farmers’ Market runs from May 26 to Sept. 29. It opens every Thursday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m., rain or shine. It has an abundance of fresh produce and fruits, fresh eggs, a variety of meats including lamb sausage, jams, jellies and sauces, baked goods, fresh seafood, seedlings, annuals, perennials and cut flowers. The market is rounded out with wood products ranging from rustic birdhouses and benches to clocks and cutting boards, and fiber products from the sheep and alpacas of our farmers.
