AUBURN — The 2011 Summer Rec ’n Read Silent Auction will be held in the Auburn Public Library starting on Tuesday, May 31, and ending at the 2011 Summer Reading Kick-Off event at the library on June 20.

The auction has more than 60 items available for bidding. Anyone interested in placing a bid may register at the circulation desk. All of the items are available for viewing at www.auburnpubliclibrary.org. On May 31, all of the items will be on display in the library.

Rec n’ Read is an Auburn Public Library and City of Auburn Parks & Recreation partnership to support the summer reading program and camp scholarships.

The library recruits reading volunteers who go to all of the Rec campsites each week and read to the kids. At the end of camp, the library gives every child a book to take home for his/her own collection.

Rec ‘n Read’s goal for the silent auction is to raise $5,000. The joint effort will promote reading in the venue where kids are, provide reading materials throughout the summer and reward each participant with a free book.

The kick-off on June 20 will bring people of all ages to the library. Thanks to sponsor Harriman Associates, there will be a magician, Conjuring Carroll, for the children, the local steel-pan band Tinpanic for adults and a video game competition for teenagers.
