HALLOWELL, Maine (AP) — Police in Hallowell police are investigating an armed robbery in which an engagement ring was stolen and a man was also beaten.

Two people Saturday night walked into an apartment wearing bandannas, one of them carrying a handgun and electronic device that might have been a cattle prod. They demanded money and jewelry from three people inside, and fled on foot after taking jewelry, including a two-karat diamond engagement ring, and a few hundred dollars.

A man who was among the robbery victims was struck in the face but did not require medical treatment.

No one’s been charged in the incident. Police do not believe that it was a random act.
