FALL RIVER, MASS. — Benjamin A. Brick left this world on May 26.

He was born on May 10, 1973, in New Kensington, Pa. to Ralph and Peggy (Copp) Brick. When Ben was two-months old, his family moved to Maine, where he was raised and lived most of his life. He attended Durham Elementary School from kindergarten through eighth grade and graduated from Brunswick High School in the Class of 1991. He was a student at the University of Maine at Farmington for one and one-half years before beginning his life as a lobsterman. While he left his work on the ocean for short amounts of time to explore other options, he always returned to the sea to pursue his livelihood.

He loved the outdoors from the time he was able to walk. He found excitement, satisfaction and peace taking hikes in the woods, skiing down a mountain slope, or sailing on the ocean. Family and friends were also important to him. He enjoyed having family cookouts and never hesitated to grill burgers and chicken for them on a Sunday afternoon. Cooking was a hobby for Ben and he took pleasure in making meals for family and friends. His seafood casserole was a popular dish whenever people got together to celebrate special occasions. For the last few years, Ben had a vegetable garden, raising tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and herbs.

His brother and he shared a strong bond. They lived many miles apart, yet both loved music, sports and the outdoors, and when together, spent their time engaged in those activities. Through his growing-up years, Ben played baseball, football, basketball and lacrosse. He was an expert skier and an instructor at Lost Valley in Auburn as a teenager. He was able to travel to Jackson Hole, Wyo. and Sun Valley, Idaho as a junior in high school to ski the western slopes. As an adult he enjoyed playing pool and participated in several tournaments.

He is survived by his loving parents, Ralph and Peggy Brick of Durham; his brother, Dana of Denver, Colo.; his beloved Nana, Shirlie Copp of Durham; the woman he loved, Autumn Dean; his uncle, Robert and wife, Griselda; his uncle, Frank and partner, Christie; his aunt, Sheral, and uncle, Clair, in Florida; and many other relatives in Pennsylvania; as well as cousins, other family members from Maine and friends from all over the country.
