There are quite often references to an area of Auburn that lies between Court Street and the Little Androscoggin River as being in New Auburn. Nothing could be further from the truth. The natural boundary between New Auburn and the rest of the city is, in fact, the Little Androscoggin River.

Therefore, the great wall is in Auburn, not in New Auburn, etc. When city officials refer to the area as being part of New Auburn, it really hits a nerve. They can call it whatever pleases them, but that does not make it so.

Due to this discrepancy, mail delivery is sometimes troublesome, as well. I live on South Main Street in New Auburn. The area north of the Little Androscoggin up to Court Street is Main Street. There are people on Main Street who have the same building number as I have. That is the problem. I receive mail for them all the time. Quite often, the people living there even list their return address as South Main Street. I correct the error and return the letter to the mailman for proper delivery. That is fine. However, when my mail goes to the Main Street address rather than to my South Main Street address, I never get it.

I would hope that, if nothing else, Auburn city officials will begin to realize the difference in the names of the two streets and, also, whether they are in Auburn or in New Auburn.
