A news dispatch received last evening stated that the Auburn Post Office has been designated by Postmaster General Hitchcock as a postal savings depository, and that the order will go into effect June 27. Auburn is the first city in Maine to get the Postal Savings, but it has been established at Rumford for some time. These two places are the only ones in Maine that have the Postal Savings bank. The postal savings banks pay two percent, guaranteed.

The opening dance of the season will be held at the Martindale Country Club Saturday evening, preceded by a social hour. Dancing will last from 9 o’clock to 1 a.m. and music will be provided by the Paul Wright Trio.
Arrangements for the event are in charge of the male members of the club.
25 years ago, 1986
More than 250 children are expected to attend the Shriner’s annual two-day clinic at Central Maine Medical Center on Friday and Saturday.
A 12-person medical team — headed by Dr. Leon Kruger, a specialist in orthopedics and chief of staff at the Shriners’ Springfield (Mass.) hospital — will visit the CMMC Family Practice Center to see its young patients.
The Shriners have been visiting CMMC for more than 40 years, helping children from Southern and Central Maine who have orthopedic problems.
