LOVELL — The Brick Church for the Performing Arts’ sixth season will offer several firsts — a poetry slam, children’s theater camp, steel drum band and musical birthday party.
The season will open on June 17 with a variation on BCPA’s traditional storytelling festival: an evening of moving, hilarious and mostly true stories by community members.
Keyboard virtuoso Dan Moore will return with a new program on July 7, and on July 14 writer Krista Mosca will bring members of the Manchester, N.H., poetry slam team to the stage.
On July 18-29, Roger Clemons of the Picket Fence Theater Company will conduct a children’s theater camp, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. He has worked 40 years in education and theater with both children and adults in the Mt. Washington Valley. Camp participants will create and present an original show for which they will also make sets, costumes and props. The camp will accept 15 schoolage children. Musicians and songwriters Heather Pierson and Davy Sturtevant will share the stage on Aug. 4. Eric Rollnick’s Mango Groove Steel Drum Band will bring calypso, reggae and Motown to BCPA on Aug. 24.
Maine country music legend Al Hawkes will present his “Americana Show” on Sept. 1; and the season will close on Sept. 9 with storytellers Michael Parent, Jo Radner and Meg Gilman offering a program geared to the entire family.
