DEXTER — The Dexter Pirates overcame an early four-run deficit with a 10-run outburst in the third inning and downed the Winthrop Red Sox, 15-8, in Pine Tree League senior baseball.

Winthrop dropped to 1-2. Dexter (4-1) inflicted both defeats.

The Sox struck first with RBI singles by John Bourque and Bob Cochran in the second inning and an RBI from Matt Richardson in the third off Pirates pitcher Scott Sibley.

That lead was short-lived, with Dexter taking advantage of walks and hit batsmen and RBI hits from Josh Morse, Curtis Brown, Mark Bennett and Gary Morin in its huge inning.

Winthrop rallied for four runs in the ninth before Sibley, who went the distance, induced a double play ball to end the threat and the game.

Morin and Adam Russell had multiple hits for Dexter. Dave Ricker Jr. led all hitters with a double and two singles for Winthrop. Mike House and Ian McCarthy also repeated for the Sox.
