LEWISTON — Juliana M. Kirkland, daughter of Kathryn M. Grefer-Kirkland and Allan L. Kirkland, of Greene, participated in the Bates College Junior Semester Abroad program.

Kirkland, a double major in anthropology and religious studies, and minor in history, studied in Cork, Ireland, through the University College Cork.

Kirkland is a 2008 graduate of Leavitt Area High School and is a recipient of the Howard Center for Community Partnership Summer Grant.

Her undergraduate activities include: varsity track and field, (shot put, discus, hammer and weight throw); intermural basketball; volunteer for Bates Buddies, a community partnership project; student representative on the Martin Luther King committee and Model United Nations. She is also a photojournalist for the Bates student newspaper and Lewiston Auburn Magazine and has interned at the Lewiston District Court and the Androscoggin District Attorney’s office. In addition, Kirkland has founded her own personalized greeting card company, “JulianaMarie Photography.”
