Lewiston’s Main Street was blocked off for more than an hour Tuesday afternoon as firefighters put out a smoky fire at the W. S. Libby Mill.
Ernest Lebel, Libby’s manager for industrial relations, said fire damage was confined to the firm’s blending machine, which is used to mix together different fibers for the industrial fabric manufactured by Libby. The fire broke out shortly after 1 p.m.
The fire caused an undetermined amount of damage to the machine and resulted in the loss of all the acrylic fibers being processed at the time.
