OAKLAND — Luke Vigue and Cam Douglas scored goals late in the fourth quarter Saturday, helping host Messalonskee stave off Lewiston, 8-6, in the KVAC boys’ lacrosse championship game.
Lewiston trailed 3-0, 4-2 and 6-3 at the quarter checkpoints before rallying to tie the game on Sam Cloutier’s goal with 7:25 remaining.
“I had a lot of tired seniors out there today,” said Lewiston coach Bill Bodwell, whose school held graduation ceremonies Friday night.
Vigue’s second goal of the game, an unassisted tally, put the Eagles (12-1) back in front. Douglas sealed the deal with his second goal off a feed by Nate DelGiudice.
DelGuidice had two goals and two assists for Messalonskee, which avenged its lone regular-season loss, a 12-3 verdict in Lewiston.
Lewiston (11-2) remains the top seed in the Eastern Class A tournament and will host either Portland or Brunswick in next Saturday’s semifinals. Messalonskee will be seeded third.
Keenan Knox and Dom Dexter each added a goal for the Eagles.
Cloutier and Brandon Tiner both scored twice to lead the Devils. Curtis Robinson added a goal and three assists. Elliot Chicoine had a goal and an assist. Jesse Leeman made 12 saves in the Lewiston net.
