LEWISTON — In fine comeback fashion, United Ambulance powered its way back from a 2-0 deficit to Anthoine Financial Group, scoring the winning run on a walk-off hit to earn a 3-2 win Friday in Elliot Ave. Major League play.
Complete with runners gunned down at the plate and only one error, the game was riveting from the start. Kaleb Morrisette of Anthoine drew the lead-off walk on starter Grant Hartley and promptly stole second, putting himself in scoring position. Mitchell Frisbie then reached on a fielder’s choice when Owen McCarthy lined a single to left scoring Morrisette. Frisbee was later gunned down at home by shortstop Jean-Luc Dostie. On the very next play, Hayden Dumont rapped a base hit to Elias Atkins in left, who promptly relayed to the dish to retire McCarthy.
Anthoine scored again in the second as Desmond Jackson & Jeremy Gumprecht each singled to go along with two walks to make the score 2-0. Anthoine hurler McCarthy kept United’s bats quiet through three innings until United’s Isaac Escobar led off the fourth with a liner to right-center for a hit. Eddie Turgeon added one of his own. Hartley moved the runners into scoring position, grounding to first. Damien St.Pierre looked at a strike and drove the next pitch through the gap, driving in two to tie the game.
Hartley was relieved by Dostie in the fifth and retired the side in order. United failed to score in the fifth despite a Jess Lopez triple. Lopez then took the mound in the sixth, surrendering only one Anthoine hit.
Frisbee relieved McCarthy and with two out in the bottom of the sixth, Escobar drew a walk, breathing hope into United’s chances. Turgeon followed with a single. Dostie, hitless in his previous two chances, drove a pitch into right center, scoring Escobar for the winning run. Lopez took the win, Frisbee the loss. Jordan Dumont also had a hit for AFG.
The game is currently under protest, pending review.
