FARMINGTON — Police say a Kingfield woman escaped with “no apparent serious injuries” after driving over a steep embankment and almost landing in Wilson Stream Monday afternoon.
Phyllis Cooley, 74, was headed for Wilson Stream Family Practice. She drove from the Mt. Blue Shopping Center across a dirt road behind Bouffard’s Furniture on the Wilton Road a little after 3 p.m., said Farmington Police officer William Tanner IV.
Tire marks showed her Subaru Forrester crossed the medical practice parking area, hit a dumpster then went through a high grass area about 30-feet before traveling down a steep, approximately 40-foot, embankment. Her vehicle hit two small trees that stopped her from going into Wilson Stream, he said.
Police had not had a chance to question Cooley to see if she remembers what happened.
Her car would have landed upside down in the stream except for the trees, he said. Airbags did not deploy.
She was responsive and had no apparent serious injuries, Tanner said. Members of Farmington Fire and Rescue helped NorthStar paramedics lift her up the embankment and she was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital.
One of Collins Wrecker’s, one used to tow big rigs, Tanner said, arrived to pull the vehicle back up the embankment.
