Benefit hockey tourney

AUBURN — Subway restaurants will sponsor the second-annual Celebration of Courage Hockey Tournament at Ingersoll Arena in Auburn on Saturday, June 11 from 10:45 a.m. to 8 p.m.

This event will benefit Kylee Gendron of Lewiston, who has been battling cancer for over two years. Subway will donate 480 subs for participants and anyone who comes to support the cause on Saturday.

“We are proud to be sponsoring the upcoming Celebration of Courage Hockey Tournament,” said Dave Grendall, a Lewiston Subway Franchisee. “Cancer affects almost everyone in one way or another, and we are honored that we can help support Kylee by providing subs to those supporting her cause.”

This event was created by Taylor-Paige Harrison, President of Brighter Future Events Inc. She came up with the idea for the Celebration of Courage Hockey Tournament after playing on a hockey team with Gendron. After only three weeks of planning the event, she had raised thousands of dollars and is constantly looking for more ways to support the fight against cancer.

“Kylee and I are friends. I can’t express how much she has changed my life and how much she has taught my family and I,” said Harrison. “Kylee has a strength that I cannot begin to understand, but I do know that I admire it and strive for her strength.”

Brighter Future Events Inc. also runs a program called Streak for Cancer, another event that is being utilized to help raise money for Gendron. Harrison will be putting pink tinsel in supporters’ hair at Ingersoll Arena on June 11 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It costs $15, and all proceeds go to support Gendron’s fight.
