Elliot Ave.

LEWISTON — United Ambulance wasted no time putting up a crooked number in the first inning and cruised to a 10-4 victory over first-place Anthoine Financial in Elliot Ave. Little League Majors action.

With a protest of their last game still pending board review, United batsmen set to task early off starter Kaleb Morrisette. Isaac Escobar led off with a single but was forced out at second on an Eddie Turgeon ground ball. United hurler Jean-Luc Dostie immediately helped his cause with a triple, driving in the game’s first run. Grant Hartley pushed him home and later scored to make the score 3-0.

Dostie, meanwhile, was masterful on the hill from the start, striking out 15 with a blazing fastball. Anthoine just couldn’t seem to get on a roll despite reaching base on five United errors.

The fireworks began in the third inning. Turgeon singled and was followed by a blast to straight-away center field by Dostie for his first homer of the year to make it 5-0. In the top of the fifth, United rallied with two outs to chase Morrisette with two quick runs.

Mitchell Frisbee relieved and was immediately feasted upon by a red-hot Dostie, who doubled in a run. Not to be outdone, Hartley then hammered a two-run shot to deep center (his fourth of the season) to run the score to 10-0.

Jess Lopez relieved Dostie in the bottom of the sixth, only to be greeted by the sound of Anthoine bats awakening. Morrisette walked and Frisbee singled. Owen McCarthy lifted a high fly ball to center, which fell in when outfielders collided and led to two runs.

After a key strikeout by Lopez, Jordan Dumont rapped a single to drive in McCarthy, then was pushed home himself by a Sean Lake single. Lopez then closed the door with a punchout to end the threat and the game.

Dostie picked up the win, with Morrisette taking the loss. United next faces Melanson Paving on Friday. AFG squares off against Elite Auto on Saturday.
