I thought that regional school units were supposed to save taxpayers money. On June 14, the administration of RSU 5 (Durham, Freeport and Pownal) is asking taxpayers to borrow $3 million to build a new sports complex in Freeport.
Unemployment is at 9 percent; gasoline at nearly $4 per gallon; and the stock market took a bad dive just recently. Experts are saying that the country may now have a double dip in the recession. Housing sales are at an all-time low.
There is a new $26 million school for kindergarten through eighth grade in Durham that has two new ball fields, a soccer field and a gymnasium that is as large as any high school would have. How about a break?
Let’s see where the country is headed before diving into something that taxpayers may not be able to pay for.
I don’t believe that area people need any new taxes at this time.
