WINDHAM — Shirley E. Porter, 75, of Windham, died June 7, at her home, following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Rumford, July 9, 1935, the daughter of Eva Fitzsimmons Spaulding of Mexico and the late Stanley Spaulding, who died in 2008. Mrs. Porter attended and graduated from Mexico High School in 1953. After graduation, she worked various jobs in the Rumford and Mexico areas along with raising her children.

She married Ronald Porter in June 1972, and they moved to Windham in 1977. When she was healthy and able, she enjoyed camping with her entire family at the Lake St. George State Park. She was devoted to her grandchildren, especially enjoying many vacations with them and remained involved in their lives to the end. As her health declined, she filled her time with reading, watching the birds and squirrels in the front yard and being kept company by her dog, Brutus and cat, Ginger.

In addition to her mother and husband, family members include her daughters, Grace Giconda and husband, Peter, of Newton, N.H., and Terry Lewis and husband, Robert Jr., of Searsmont; granddaughters, Carly Mercer and husband, Chris, of Surry, Jolene Lewis of Front Royal, Va., and Melissa and Jessica Giconda of Newton, N.H.; four great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, stepchildren and stepgrandchildren.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her sister, Lyanne Boivin; and an infant son, Thomas Garbotz Jr.
