Walton Elementary School Principal Michelle McClellan assists students in planting a flowering crab apple tree at the Auburn school Friday. It replaces a similar tree that was hit by a snowplow. The tree was dedicated to Donna Albert, a retiring fourth-grade teacher at the school who had worked in education for 26 years. “She’s an awesome, awesome teacher,” McClellan said. “We will definitely miss her.” The tree was purchased as part of a grant from the Project Canopy, which is funded by the USDA Forest Service Community Forestry Assistance Program. More trees will be purchased with the grant money and planted on the school’s playground.
