FARMINGTON — Safe Voices will sponsor a panel discussion on elder abuse Tuesday in observance of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
The panel discussion and a time for questions takes place from 1 to 3 p.m. on June 14 in the Chisholm Room at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
WEAAD is an event that takes place around the globe. Elder abuse is an all-too-frequent problem that goes largely unreported, according to Safe Voices.
The panel includes representatives from Farmington Police Department, Safe Voices Domestic Violence Agency and Adult Protective Services to help the community learn how to become better equipped to assist those who are experiencing elder abuse.
Topics include the red flags of abuse and what to do if you suspect elder abuse, area resources and when and how to make a report and what happens from there, Jessica Dorr, Safe Voices community educator, said.
The discussion includes abuse of the elderly ranging from verbal to emotional, physical, sexual, neglect and financial, she said.
