CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Ruth Brindley Cheney, 79, a resident of Concord, N.H., and Cape Coral, Fla., died May 23 at Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral.
Ruth was born in Fort Fairfield on April 29, 1932, the third daughter of the Rev. Thomas L. and Elma (Smiley) Brindley. She graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn with the Class of 1950. She then attended Colby College in Waterville, after which she worked at the then Thayer Hospital in Waterville and city hall in Augusta.
She moved to Concord in the early 1960s, where she worked at New Hampshire Distributors as vice president and controller until her retirement, after 29 years, in 1992. She married her husband of 39 years, M.F. “Peter” Cheney, in 1972. After retirement, Ruth and Peter wintered in Cape Coral and summered in Concord and York Beach.
She enjoyed bowling in her younger years, was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time at the beach. She loved being surrounded by friends and family. “Auntie,” as she was affectionately called by her nieces and nephews and their friends, was always willing to listen and was interested in, and involved with, all their activities.
She is survived by her loving husband, Peter, of Concord; a sister, Elsie Talbot of Turner; a brother, Thomas Brindley and his wife, Nancy, of Pittsfield, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Eleanor and her husband, Alan Thurber, of Manchester, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Duym; and oldest nephew, J. Russell “Rusty” Duym, both of Blue Hill.
