WILTON — Residents are welcome to join town officials for a recycling tour of EcoMaine on Tuesday, June 21.

A group, including the town manager and some selectmen, will carpool to Portland, leaving the Wilton Town Office at 8 a.m. Tuesday to tour the single-sort-recycling facility, Town Manager Rhonda Irish said last week.

Neighboring towns, Jay and Livermore Falls, have converted to the system, she told selectmen. The trip is open to anyone who would like to tour the facility and learn more about single-sort recycling.

She has also requested an assessment of Wilton’s solid waste and recycling program by Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments to see what the town is already doing effectively.

Anyone interested can contact the town office at 645-4961.

Selectmen opted to put most of the 24 now town-owned, tax-acquired properties up for auction.

The properties have a combined assessed value of $627,200 although a few are small and only a couple have buildings on them, Irish told the board. The smallest property is 0.30 acres and the largest is four acres.

Irish will discuss potential sales of the smallest properties with abutting landowners. She will also work on an arrangement with Stuart Allen for Western Maine ATV Club for a Munson Road property. The rest will go to auction.

Selectmen set a tentative date for the auction for Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. The location, either Cushing or Academy Hill School, has not been determined yet, Irish said.

Adrian Harris of Harris Real Estate Appraisals and Auctions will auction the properties in an attempt to get them back on the town’s tax books.

After citizens voted to reduce the amount of funding for street lights during last week’s annual town meeting, town officials will work with Central Maine Power Co. on a strategic plan of which lights and how many need to be shut off.

Residents concerned about specific lights can call the town office and have their names put on a list of lights to be considered for keeping, Irish said.

If a light becomes destined to be shut off, citizens have the option to keep the light on by paying CMP for the light, an approximate $15 charge per month.
