LIVERMORE FALLS — Members of the High School Academic Boosters put on a luncheon Thursday to show their appreciation for the hard work and dedication of teachers and staff.

Finger rolls, meatballs, beans, salads, fruits and more filled a table. The tables in the family and consumer science room each boasted a gold or green star balloon, a vase of flowers and some goodies for the guests of honor.

The group selected the theme “Thank you for helping to build strong minds” this year because it reflects the goals of the Academic Boosters, member Doreen McDaniel said.

The organization’s mission is to focus on raising funds and planning events and activities that celebrate and encourage academic growth of all students.

The luncheon was a way to thank teachers and staff for everything they do for the school and for helping students excel.

One of the events the organization was pleased to support this year was the Aspirations Project, McDaniel said. It engaged students and their families, community members, businesses and faculty in a project that they all could be proud of, she said.

The group also recognized district media specialist Cathi Howell, who is a founding member of the organization. The banner yearbook was dedicated to Howell this year, an honor the organization called “well-earned.”

The group is now embarking on some very interesting changes and plan to find a way to be involved and support staff at the Spruce Mountain High School campuses in Jay and Livermore Falls once the two systems consolidate, member Theresa Timberlake said.

The group raises its funds by selling doughboys during homecoming and a raffle for cabin fever baskets.

They gave out one $500 scholarship during Aspiration Night and two $250 scholarships to graduating seniors, Timberlake said.

Members say they are committed to encouraging students to do better in school and helping more students succeed. They also promote awareness of academic and enrichment opportunities available in high school, increasing graduation rates and increasing the number of students who move on to post-secondary education or who have distinct plans.
