RUMFORD — The Roxbury ATV Club rides with heart.

Members presented Hope Association with a check for $800 Thursday morning at the organization’s facilities in Rumford. The money was raised during the club’s ATV poker run on Saturday.

Hope Association is a community service organization that has provided services to River Valley residents with intellectual disabilities since 1956.

“We had over 200 people participate in the event last Saturday,” club member Mike Worthley said, “and we raised $1,400 for charities in the process.”

“We are also donating $600 from the ride to the Make-A-Wish Foundation,” he said. “Our club participates in a ride for charity once a month.”

Saturday’s 27-mile ride was dedicated to the memory of Lee Hodgkins, a club member who passed away last November at the age of 37.

“The Roxbury ATV Club has established a special relationship with Hope Association through the years,” said Catherine Johnson, executive director of Hope Association. “The club takes Hope Association clients on ATV rides and fishing trips during the summer months and snowmobiling in winter.”

“There have developed some strong friendships between members of the two groups,” Worthley said.

“I thank all the volunteers who raise money for Hope Association,” Johnson said.

The next Roxbury ATV Club charity poker run will be the Donald Ryerson Memorial in September.
