My English class is doing a project on child abuse, so I am writing regarding an article in the Sun Journal, “Parenting program faces state budget ax,” printed March 10.

The program should not be cut because the people running the program, with college degrees, would lose their jobs and there are already a lot of people without jobs here in Maine.

The program serves 150 to 200 families just across Oxford County. That would be a lot of families left without the help of the program.

The results from a survey showed that participation increased parents’ confidence in parenting skills by 91 percent; that 95 percent felt their children had been helped by participation; and that 100 percent of the parents would recommend the program to first-time parents.

My goal is to convince Gov. Paul LePage not to cut the program.
