LEWISTON — Marguerite Dumeny Kershner, 103, formerly of Chesterville, died Thursday, June 16, at Russell Park Living Center.

She was born in New York City on Oct. 23, 1907, a daughter of George and Anna (Murphy) Dumeny. Her father worked for Currier and Ives, and they later moved to Maine. She graduated from New Sharon High School. She attended summer sessions at Farmington Teachers College and taught two years at Goodridge Corner School in Industry.

Marguerite returned to NYC with friends to attend and graduate from Butlers Business College. She was then secretary to the director of Yonkers Visiting Nurses Association. She returned to Maine to be married to Guy Roland Kershner in 1934. Marguerite and Roland owned a working farm in Farmington until they retired to Chesterville Hill.

She was a tireless worker who cared for farmwork, her family, her animals and life with a smile on her face and never a complaint. Marguerite was a gifted artist who loved to paint, as well as knit, crochet, sew and refinish furniture. She was also a talented cook and she had a love of gardening. She saw the good in everyone and everything and will be remembered for her generosity and kindness of spirit. No one ever left her home empty-handed. Marguerite spent the last few years of her life at Russell Park Living Center in Lewiston.

She had two children, Kathleen, born in 1935, and Lewis, born in 1946. She is survived by her children; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. In keeping with the interests of their children, they were heavily involved with the Sandy River Riding Club and 4-H. She was a 50-year member of the Red Schoolhouse Extension. Marguerite and Roland were longtime members of the Maine Poultry Association.

Words of condolence and tribute may be shared with her family at www.wilesrc.com.
