LEWISTON — Police in Lewiston are continuing their investigation into an early morning stabbing that left one man in jail and another in serious condition at an area hospital Sunday.

Rai’Kuez Melchoirre, 34, of 209 Lincoln St., was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with aggravated assault following the 1:49 a.m. fight on College Street.

Sgt. Randy St. Laurent said that Melchoirre allegedly pulled a knife and stabbed 22-year-old Richard “Buddy” Edwards numerous times during a fight between the two men. Edwards, address unknown, was listed in serious condition Sunday night, according to a nursing supervisor with Central Maine Medical Center.

St. Laurent said that the case remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
