WEST GARDINER — A Greene man suffered a broken foot and other injuries after his motorcycle was hit by a car Sunday morning.

According to WMTW-Channel 8 News, 55-year-old Marc Moreau was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Greene following the 10:02 a.m. crash on Route 126 at the turnpike off-ramp. Moreau was wearing a helmet, which a trooper with the Maine State Police credited with saving his life.

Moreau was northbound on Route 126 driving a 2006 Yamaha V Star motorcycle when he was hit by a 2002 Jaguar driven by Stephen Degroat, 69, of Auburn. According to police, Degroat exited the turnpike and was crossing Route 126 heading into a service plaza, but he did not see Moreau’s motorcycle. Moreau tried to stop, but skidded into Degroat’s vehicle and was thrown about 30 feet upon impact.

One lane of the exit ramp was closed following the crash.
