MOUNT VERNON — Arthur Robert Taylor, 85, died peacefully at his home in Mount Vernon on Sunday, June 19.
He was born in Chelsea, June 25, 1925, the son of Joseph and Estella (Ricker) Taylor.
Arthur grew up in Mount Vernon on the Taylor Hill Road. He was educated in the Mount Vernon school system and, at the age of 19, enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served during World War II, from Aug. 11, 1944 until his honorable discharge on May 10, 1946.
He married Hilda Wright and was employed by Bath Iron Works, where he drove a truck and was a crane operator, and also worked at the Harding Plant.
Arthur’s passion was antique vehicles, with his pride and joy being his 1930 Model A Ford pickup. He also liked working on, among others, a cutdown Model A tractor and a 1977 Ford LTD 2 stationwagon.
Those who knew and loved him found Arthur to be a kind and caring man who was always looking to help out his family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed visiting relatives in Washington State and looked forward to when his relatives from Washington State and his cousin, Barbara Hart, of New York, would visit him in Mount Vernon.
Arthur was predeceased by his wife and son, Hilda Taylor and Paul Deering Taylor.
He will be dearly missed by his close friend, Leon Palmer, of Mount Vernon, who also cared for Arthur for the last several years until his passing; his neighbor, Kathryn Ducharme; and all his cousins from Washington State to New York City.
