PORTLAND — Edward L. True, 88, passed away Saturday, June 18, in the loving arms of his wife of 65 years.

He was born Jan. 11, 1923, son of Lewis and Angie True and lived most of his life in his beloved town of New Gloucester.

Ed was an avid Red Sox fan who always found pleasure in good games of cards. A man of great character, he most enjoyed the company of his family and friends who found inspiration from the way he lead his life.

Ed was a World War II veteran, serving in England and France. Since his retirement from Central Maine Power Company in 1985, Ed has served on the Board of Selectman, the Historical Society and the Cemetery Association, all in New Gloucester.

Ed is survived by his wife, Betty, who was the love of his life, his constant companion and his persistent cribbage opponent; his sons, Calvin and his wife, Debbie, Daniel and his wife, Nancy and Harvey and his wife, Linda; together with grandchildren, Adam, Seth, Jared, James, Arthur, Beth and Karen; he was also blessed with others whom he regarded like his own children including, Kathy, Mark, Nancy and Debbie.
