NEWRY— The end of three years of town bridge repairs is finally in sight.

Selectmen chose the bid of T Buck Construction Co. of Auburn, which will do the work on Paine Bridge. T Buck’s bid was $98,717. The bid was the lowest of six.

The reconstruction of the bridge marks the end of the town’s three-year process of repairing its bridges to bring them up to state safety standards. The cost of the repairs of the two previous bridges was in excess of $100,000 each.

Selectmen all expressed relief that now that the bridge work was complete they could begin town road repair with more vigor.

In other business, $500 worth of exterior fire station repair work was assigned to D.A. Wilson and Co. to complete.

Selectmen decided that the fir trees outside the station need to be removed so they won’t be toppled in a storm and cut off electricity at the station.

The board also decided to go ahead with an energy audit of the Town Hall by Efficiency Maine for $300. Members decided they would weigh the work done by Efficiency Maine before giving the firm the go-ahead to do energy audits on the other three municipal buildings.

The next meeting will be Monday, July 11, at 5:30 p.m in the town office building.
