NORWAY — A Norway man was released on personal recognizance Monday after he was charged with attempting to sexually assault a woman.

Harry E. Kimball Jr., 52, of Waterford Road, was charged with attempted gross sexual assault. He also faces an assault charge in the incident.

According to an arrest affidavit by Norway police Officer Ron Cole, a woman said Kimball tried to sexually assault her Sunday morning. She said she escaped the scene.

Cole said he met with the woman at a store and took her statement before speaking with Kimball at his home.

Kimball told Cole he had been out with a friend all night and denied the incident. Cole wrote that Kimball was cooperative and submitted to arrest without argument.

Kimball was initially held on cash bail but was released after his bail hearing Monday, according to court documents. He was ordered to avoid contact with the woman.

He is set to appear in Oxford County Superior Court in Paris on Sept. 6.
