Who are they? Someone’s ghost?

Can you find the faces in the council chambers? Maybe they are there to guide the mayor and City Council. Maybe they are faces of the people in the old Auburn Hall. Maybe the first government of Auburn.

While I sat in the council chamber, I saw the three faces. Are they the ghosts of the past, or are they the faces of these: speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil.

If they could talk, they would say we cannot believe the change in government during the past 200 years. What was so important to us in government is all gone away. The people who fought for our forefathers and fought for the flag, who gave so much . . . even their lives for our way of life.

What can we do about the city government today? One face says to the other faces, “I speak no evil, I see no evil, I hear no evil.”

One thing the council could do is stop spending money; hold the line on taxes. The councilors need the backbone to say “no” to the school board. The citizens have tried, perhaps the ghosts can help guide the mayor and council. Maybe then there will be some action.
