BUCKFIELD — Selectmen voted 2-1 Tuesday night to sign a one-year contract with Town Manager Glen Holmes.
The vote and announcement, which followed an executive session, brought an outcry from resident Tony Bachelder, who asked Selectman John Lowell if he thought the decision was in the best interest of the town.
Lowell said he did.
Bachelder told him he was lying.
Selectman Eileen Hotham told the crowd of about 20 people that the contract was signed.
Selectman Robin Buswell voted against the contract.
After an earlier 90-minute executive session with two town employees, the board signed a new Personnel Policy. Among the changes was one that employees must use their vacation time or lose it. Previously they were allowed to exchange the time for money.
However, due to budget cuts employees made compromises, Town Clerk Cindy Dunn said after the meeting.
The board acted on five foreclosures and appointed Dunn to the Emergency Services Committee, which will be researching how the town could save money on ambulance service.
