MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Lions Club Speak-Out 2011 contest was held April 4 at Roadside Bakery and Cafe on Main Street.
The judges were Donna Frost, Archie Wing and Jonathan Bradley. Questioners were Bob Mulliken and Bill Mann. At the end of each speech, the contestants were asked two questions. All speeches were evaluated in three categories: delivery of speech, material in speech and responses to questioning.
The Monmouth Academy students placed as follows: first place, Mackenzie Kelley, “Cancer Awareness,” $50; second place, Amanda Blundon, “Abuse in Foster Care,” $40; third place, Kelsey Goentzel “Television as Peer Pressure,” $30.
Monmouth Academy coaches Scott and Cathy Foyt were presented each with a Lions Club International aluminum sports bottle in appreciation of the fine work they do at Monmouth Academy.
