VERNON, Conn. — Marie “Rita” (Doyon) Gardner, 84, of Vernon, Conn., loving wife of the late Marcel R. Gardner, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 17, with her daughter at her side.

She was born in Lewiston, one of seven children to the late Conrad and MaireAnge (Turgeon) Doyon. She grew up in Lewiston and lived in Hartford, Conn., before moving to Vernon more than 46 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville, Conn.

Rita was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and friend who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Jodi Merusi of Ellington, Conn.; two sisters, Yolande Bissonnette of Lewiston and Jocelyn Johnston of San Diego, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Donald Merusi; three brothers; and a sister.
