PARIS — Barbara Murphy of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension of Oxford County will join the Fox School Farmers’ Market vendors on Saturday, June 25. Murphy will have information on the many programs offered to the local community by the extension office such as master gardener classes and an array of 4-H programs. The cooperative extension is also a valuable resource to answer questions such as, “what is this bug” or “why does my plant look like that” or “how do I preserve this vegetable for winter meals?” Murphy will be on hand all morning to answer these questions and to chat with the community.
This Saturday will also mark the return of Verrill’s Vegetable Stand to the market. Steve and Sue Verrill run a traditional vegetable farm in Poland. Sue will have the first of their strawberries, peas and hopefully some early cucumbers.
The Fox School Farmers’ Market is held each Saturday morning at the old Mildred Fox School in South Paris, presently the Oxford Hills Christian Academy. The market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through early October. The market is one of only a handful of “growers only” markets in the state, which means that every vendor at the market grows and/or produces everything they offer for sale.
